2020: The Clueless Meet the Indifferent – Time to Change Your Business

  1. 69% of EEs say they’d work harder if they were better appreciated (Hubspot) Could that mean more than 2/3 of EEs are somewhere between sleepwalking and wobbly = indifferent?
  2. 58% of managers said they didn’t receive any management training = clueless. (Forbes via CareerBuilder.com) Digest that for a second!

Most of this result is impacted by SMB’s. Yes Boss, “Only 30% of your employees don’t cop an attitude! And, only 40% of your Sups can actually manage! Are you kidding? That’s Unsustainable.”

Every Company has devised a unique series of activities to hire, direct and develop EEs. It’s called HR. HR, employee wise, leads us to just “who the company is.” The data says overall HR activities are failing. And, that’s because the HR effort is home schooled.

HR is not like accounting.  There is no GAAP. There is not even a standard definition of HR. Its typically left to business people to work out their “unique approach” to HR, especially in SMB’s.  Mostly HR is created by people who have no formal training and certainly no pocketbook to hire a professional to help.

Results in 1 and 2 above are awful. The trouble is the boss probably does not know any of this. Why would it drop in the boss’s lap anyway? Its HR specific information.  It is likely the company will continue to try to build its team around the clueless and the indifferent. This will make it less competitive each month.

Oh well, Rome wasn’t built in a day. But, in the last 10 years, 50% of the Fortune 100 disappeared. Uh, what caused that change? Perhaps change is required by SMB’s or they may end up disappearing like a Fortune 100 company.
